Packerland HOG Chapter member donates Harley jersey

Lynn Vandervest | 01/14/2021

People visiting the showroom at Vandervest Harley-Davidson of Green Bay can see the latest addition hanging on the wall.

The addition is a Harley-Davidson jersey purchased in 1951 at Lunds Harley-Davidson in Menominee, Mich., by longtime Packerland HOG Chapter member Lee Christopherson.

Lee was a teenager when he purchased the jersey, and he's been a lifelong H-D enthusiast. The jersey includes a photo of him as a 14-year-old on a 1949 Hummer at his family farm in Oconto. He purchased the bike from Mike Koehler in Peshtigo.

No matter what the weather was, Lee said he rode in it.

Decades later, Lee still is enthused about the Harley brand. Retired from the Oconto Police as Captain, he has driven over 70,000 miles just going to Sturgis, S.D., over the past 35 years. He and his wife, Pearl, have been friends of Vandervest Harley-Davidson since it opened in 1999. They continue to be dedicated members of the Packerland HOG Chapter-Green Bay.

"We are honored to display the jersey given to us by Lee," said Lynn Vandervest. "It represents a timeless piece of great history of Harley-Davidson and we are proud to display it in our showroom."

Rick Vandervest framed the jersey and photos for display.
